Media Appreciation 4: The Questions

1. The images that stuck in my mind were from the commercial of the babies driving in a car. The commercial was very colorful, animated and just had a good spirit. I think the target audience would be anyone, there isn't a specific age. I think they chose to make a commercial like that one because it puts a smile on everyones face, like when you watch the commercial you want to go pump gas at BP.

2. Yes, I think their logo is appropriate. By having the flower BP Oil is demonstrating that they are environmentally friendly.

3. Considering the fact that BP's oil spilled in the Gulf of Mexico, I think it is their full responsability to clean it up. From the news videos, they are cleaning it up which is very good. I don't think anyone should be laughed at or should be laughing. Since it was their mistake and are fixing it, there is not need for mockary.

Media Appreciation 3: Media of the Future

1. I think something that we will see in the future is going to be example an xbox that is wireless and will allow you to play it anywhere. There won't be a fuss with a million wires and not knowing which goes where, or worrying that you lost one.

2. By having a product like this created, people will find it more convenient to bring around and just in general to have. By having a game with zero wires, it makes it more portable for everyone and it will convine people to bring it anywhere. Also, people won't worry about losing a wire or forgetting one while bringing it around.

3. This product would have a good impact on people. Everyone will realize how easy it is to bring games around. They won't dread having to bring wires and consoles and manets everywhere. People will be a lot more worry-free because they would have to panic about losing a wire or forgetting one somewhere.

Buffalo Bill

1. Reality and entertainment became blurred for Buffalo Bill once he became famous. His family was not a priority to him anymore. Everything that was fake seemed like reality to him.

2. Buffalo Bill was one of the first "real" celebrities. Before him, there's wasn't anyone really like him.

3. With new media, Buffalo Bill would have benefitted greatly. He would definitely have been known more. With cellphones, computers, internet, etc the word passes along a lot faster and therefore Buffalo Bill would be a much bigger celebrity than he was before.

Media Appreciation: Videogaming

1. Video games become very addictive to people of any age. As for myself, I do not enjoy playing them but I do see it in my brother that he loves to play video games. I think it becomes very addictive because it's like your own little world. You're playing that game and no one is bothering you. You aren't thinking about anything else except beating the game and all your worries go away. It's like an escape from the real world.

2. Many talk about how video games have developed so much over the years. Video games today are so advanced, they almost seem realistic. The graphics have developed immensely conpared to the games just 10 years ago. I think that as these games continue being created, people get so addicted they don't think about anything else. Also, these games are being compared to things happening in real life. By playing these games, I'm sure people get crazy ideas.

3. I think people are getting too addicted to these video games and it is having a very bad impact on our culture. As an example; young boys today are so hooked on playing on these games, they forget about everything else. They don't bother to call their friends, or even play outside anymore, they're constantly on the tv 24 hours a day and completely let themselves go. Since this is happening now, it will definitely comtinue happening and will probably become worse.

Web Site Review

Good Site

From my opinion I think a good site is the row. The site is professionally designed and shows its viewers how professional it really is. It is very easy to access and to navigate on. I also like the first page of the site as you do have to click on it and brings you to another page. Also, the content on the page is layout out very clearly which allows easy access to the pages.
The appearance of the site is very interesting. Although it does not have many vibrant colors and does not come across as a very "colorful" site, I think the site just brings something different to the table. Everything about the site really brings out the personality of the designers and their collections.
The only issue I have with the site is the speed from one page to another. It seems to me as if it is programmed to take its time when you click on any page.

Bad Site
For our review on a bad site, I feel like the Pepsi site could improve on some of its points. The site does not come across as a "professional" site but as a children's site with all the bright colors. Since Pepsi is a very big brand, I would actually expect something a little more for their site. I do understand why they put those colors on the pages but I think they could have improved the design and the color choices so it would be more appealing to the viewers. The navigation on the site is very easy and clear. Unlike The Row's site, Pepsi's site does not have a beginning page.

Impact of Social Media

What is a media persona?

From my opinion, a media persona is someone hiding their true self. They'e putting on an action through media because either their afraid to show their true self or hiding something that's been done and they are afraid to show it.

How does social media fit into the professional world?

Now a days, social media fits into the professional world in so many ways. With all the latest social networking sites like facebook, twitter, myspace, etc, pictures and information can be posted about people. With this technology and advantage, bosses and co-workers or just strangers can search up a person and can probably view a picture or get info on the person. In most ways this can be a negative turnout for the person due to the fact that "bad" pictures or "false" information can be publicized without them knowing or just simply because a boss or co-worker saw something they didn't like and for that the person wouldn't be hired. Racism can also play a key role with social media and the professional world. Someone seeking an employee can search the person for information and might come across a picture of example a black person and just because of that they wouldn't hire the person.

Video Document Response

1. Was there a point where you felt you were iverwhelmed and felt like your "image" wasn't enough?

I don't think there was ever a point where I felt my image wasn't enough. I think everyone goes through those times where you compare yourself to others, but for myself I never felt I had to look a certain way.

2. Is the line blurred between what is "sexy" and the image that you have (or are building) of yourself?

Everyone is a different individual and everyone is entitled to feeling and thinking the way they want. Some people might feel their image isn't sexy enough and will turn to the way the media portrays sexy and build themselves up with that. For myself, I feel like building up my own image depends on me and not the way "sexy" is portrayed in the media.

3. Whose role is it to set "limits"?

I think it is up to the person to set themselves their own limits. No one can control or tell a person what to do.

4. What Advice would you give to a 4 year old starting her "socail life", by going to school next year?

If I were to give a 4 year old advice, I think I woud just tell them to be nice and friendly to everyone. Bullying and all other things can start at a young age, so you want to set a good example to the 4 year old and show them from right and wrong
